Position Overview: The Assistant Track Coach plays a crucial role in supporting the Head Coach in all aspects of our Women's Indoor & Outdoor Track, Men's Cross Country, and Women's Cross Country programs. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our student-athletes, helping them achieve their academic and athletic potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in recruiting top talent, including high school and transfer athletes, through year-round recruitment activities such as attending games/events, making phone calls, and corresponding with coaches and players.
- Support the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and pre/post workouts, ensuring that athletes are prepared for competition.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coaching strategies and techniques to enhance the performance of our teams.
- Record and analyze statistics as needed, providing valuable insights to improve team performance.
- Motivate and mentor student-athletes, fostering a positive and competitive environment.
- Abide by and enforce the rules and regulations established by Winston-Salem State University, the CIAA, and the NCAA.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree
- Previous experience in coaching track and field/cross country at the collegiate level.
- Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel for recruitment purposes and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Passion for mentoring and developing student-athletes.

Assistant Track & Field/Cross Country Coach. Responsibilities include serving as the primary assistant to the head track & field and cross country coach, recruiting, meet preparation, practice planning & organization, scheduling, and assisting the head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation. Assistant Coach qualified in coaching middle-distance and sprints; familiar with all Cross Country aspects, including scoring and meet preparation. The assistant coach interacts professionally with all internal and external contacts and develops positive public relations. Candidate must have experience as a collegiate cross country/track & field student-athlete. Minimum of one to three years coaching at collegiate level preferred. This is a full-time, non-faculty appointment with benefits. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. |
