Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Engineering Manager, Manufacturing Technical Services will work collaboratively across departments to support and improve operations within Vertex Manufacturing Center (VMC) manufacturing, facilities, and warehouse areas. This position will facilitate improvements to equipment, documentation, processes, and procedures that will enhance efficiency and ensure best practices are implemented. This position will also drive continuous improvement and strategic site projects. The Engineering Manager, Manufacturing Technical Services reports directly to the Senior Manager, Manufacturing Technical Investigations & Analytics (MTIA).

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Act as technical and business project lead on key continuous improvement and strategic site projects to innovate and expand manufacturing techniques at the VMC.

  • Assist MTS & MTIA leaders with management tasks, including process data analysis, project scoping, and resource planning.

  • Lead root cause technical investigations for deviations involving manufacturing equipment and processes to develop Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) plans.

  • Identify and own process improvement opportunities by developing project proposals and initiatives, including developing Requests for Quotation (RFP), User Requirement Specifications (URS), and coordinating vendor proposals and selection.

  • Provide project management and engineering leadership for process related projects at the VMC, including providing direction and guidance to cross-functional resources working on these projects.

  • Mentor and train junior team members in the completion of technical tasks.

  • Apply GMP concepts and internally aligned interpretations of regulatory guidance to ensure consistent and compliant practices across GMP Operations.

  • Own and sponsor change controls in support of process improvement.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • History of utilizing common project execution methods to lead small to mid-sized projects, both as a lead engineer and as a project manager.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, and flexibility to accommodate changes in responsibilities or project priorities.

  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of QMS systems (Veeva, Trackwise).

  • Familiarity with process improvement or capital project implementation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in a pharmaceutical science or relevant engineering discipline, such as chemical or mechanical engineering.

  • 4 + years of GMP experience in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry with increasing project and management responsibility, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with API and/or Oral Solid Dosage manufacturing.

Flex Designation:

On-Site Designated

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this On-Site designated role, you will work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
