Seattle - 1L Diversity Fellowship (#911)

Dorsey & Whitney LLP
United States, Washington, Seattle
Jan 09, 2025

Dorsey & Whitney LLP is seeking first-year law students who have strong interpersonal skills; ambition; and diverse perspectives, experiences, and interests for the 2025 Diversity Fellowship. Dorsey's Seattle office will select a first-year law student to receive the Dorsey Diversity Fellowship and work as a 2025 summer associate. This student will also spend a portion of the summer working at the in-house legal department of a Dorsey client. In addition, the Diversity Fellowship recipient will also be named a Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) 1L Scholar.

Recipients will receive $10,000 toward law school tuition and expenses for the 2025-2026 school year. Recipients who return to Dorsey for the summer following their second year of law school will receive an additional $10,000 for the 2026-2027 school year, and an additional $10,000 if they join the firm as an associate.

During the summer program, you will:
- Work on challenging client matters, obtaining substantive work opportunities and working closely with our attorneys in the Trusts & Estates practice area;
- Spend two weeks working with the in-house legal department of a Dorsey client;
- Hone your legal writing skills;
- Choose from a variety of pro bono matters on which to work;
- Have the opportunity to attend client meetings, depositions, closings, and court appearances;
- Receive formal feedback and mentoring;
- Participate in numerous seminars and training events hosted by Dorsey U, our in-house professional development group; and
- Establish meaningful relationships with your summer associate colleagues and Dorsey attorneys through professional opportunities, networking, and a variety of social events.

The client portion of the program will primarily be remote and summer associates will:
- Work on in-house legal projects;
- Attend Practice Area Seminars conducted by the client's in-house counsel that highlight the issues that the client's legal department handles;
- Receive formal mentoring by the client's in-house counsel; and
- Attend virtual social events.

Are you looking for a law firm where you can develop your legal skills and continue to learn and grow throughout your career as an attorney? If so, we strongly encourage you to apply for a summer associate position.

All law students who attend an ABA-accredited school are eligible to apply, subject to the class year requirement as noted above. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated record of academic achievement and a commitment to promoting diversity in the legal community.
