About the role The Control Room Operator (CRO) is responsible for the safe, environmentally sound and efficient daily operation of the facility, performs assigned routine inspections and manipulative operations without close supervision and directs daily operational activities of all shift personnel, including Equipment Operators, Auxiliary Equipment Operators, Heavy Equipment Operators, Ash System Operators and Truck Drivers.
Position Responsibilities:
Places into service or removes from service boiler-turbine-generator systems and related auxiliary equipment such as valves, regulators, superheaters, feedwater heaters, cooling towers, sootblowers, fans, conveyors, augers, fuel feeders, pumps, compressors, lime slakers, atomizers, precipitators, etc. Starts, stops, parallels, separates, loads and unloads the turbine-generator unit and adjusts voltage on the generator to maintain power factor to control in-house vars. Observes proper operating procedures with reference to time and temperature when bringing a piece of equipment into service. Controls operating parameters from the distributed control system either manually or automatically, as required. Monitors various plant parameters, makes changes and directs operators as necessary to maintain the systems within specified limits. Records all equipment changes and any abnormal or unusual conditions that may exist on any piece of assigned equipment. Performs daily routine inspections of the distributed control system, the continuous emissions monitoring system, the governor controls, the automatic voltage regulator controls, the fire system annunciation panel, the sootblowing panel and the Bentley-Nevada turbine supervisory instrumentation, filling out necessary log sheets and writing maintenance work requests as needed. Assists the Shift Supervisor in the preparation of equipment lockouts and tagouts. Supports NERC/FERC/FRCC Internal Compliance Program (ICP), ensuring that all applicable policies and procedures follow current NERC/FERC/FRCC requirements and standards. Directs and assists operators in troubleshooting of plant equipment. Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Performs additional tasks as directed by the Shift Supervisor, or his or her designee.
Position Requirements & Qualifications:
Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent. Must be able to speak, read and write in English. Must be able to pass respirator fit testing on a daily basis
Certifications and Training Requirements for the successful candidate to obtain:
Completion of the GPI Learn LP qualification requirements. Completion of the Control Room Operator Job Demonstration Manual. Completion of equipment permissive, trips, and alarms. Completion of at least one year's experience as an Equipment Operator or related outside experience.
Base requirements for newly hired Control Room Operators:
Must have a thorough knowledge of the principles of operation, function and construction of steam boilers, theory and chemistry of combustion, boiler water quality control, turbine-generators, continuous emissions monitoring equipment, and auxiliary equipment and systems. Must have a clear understanding of equipment interlocks, alarms and trips and must understand how the various plant control loops respond and the speed at which they respond in both normal and abnormal operating conditions. Must have the ability to react quickly and with good judgment during emergencies. Must be an effective communicator, commanding respect, and full cooperation of other operators. Must have a high school education or equivalent and must have completed Reworld's operator training program requirements for the position or must have had equivalent power plant work-related experience. Must have successfully completed both an oral and written review to ensure that he or she is qualified to accept and assume the responsibilities of the position. Must be ASME/QRO certified or obtain within one year of employment. Must be respirator fit qualified.
