SUMMARY

Hennepin Healthcare has a current opening for a Hyperbaric Technologist-Technical Coordinator in our Hyperbaric Chamber. This full-time position will work weekdays with rotating weekends and on-call.

Works in collaboration with the department's Safety Director (SD) and Department Manager (DM), Facilities Management, and vendors to ensure the safety of patients and staff throughout all chamber operations, procedures and testing.

Assists in ensuring facility compliance with current codes and standards related to the hyperbaric chamber(s) and equipment.

Performs work in a technical support position involving medical treatments in a hyperbaric setting, and patient care services at the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level of training.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Perform the standard and customary duties of a hyperbaric technologist in this facility
  • Foster positive relationships between the technologists and the hospital, local fire department, EMS, and pressure vessel inspector
  • Monitor HBO area of building and notify Environmental Services, facilities management, and other departments of needed services
  • Ensure the overall safe mechanical functioning of the chamber facility by regularly evaluating, testing and documenting the equipment and supplies used in Hyperbaric Medicine
  • Ensure that maintenance meets published standards for such pressurized vessels and Fink Engineering specific standards for this system and assume leadership in the development and 2 documentations of a plan and schedule where published standards or Fink Engineering standards do not exist
  • Maintain knowledge of the current codes and standards related to the technical aspects of provision of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, as outlined by the most current versions of NFPA-99 (Chapter 14) Standard for Health Care Facilities, the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), and the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT)
  • Maintain knowledge of the current operational status of the HCMC hyperbaric chambers (multiplace and monoplace) and work with department leadership and the HCMC Facilities Department to ensure minimization of potential or actual disruption to the 24/7 readiness to provide treatment
  • Work with Facilities Management, Fink Engineering and department leadership to arrange largescale repairs and equipment maintenance
  • Monitor all repairs and maintenance activities to always ensure minimal impact on clinical operations and ongoing safety of clinical operations
  • Assist with the collection, maintenance, and tracking of quality assurance data
  • Complete other duties as assigned by SD
  • Participate in hyperbaric or safety related committees to gain knowledge of hyperbaric related issues
  • Research and/or develop new equipment needed for future growth of hyperbaric needs
  • Maintain and schedule Preventative Maintenance with appropriate vendors while utilizing minimal downtime to hyperbaric procedures
  • Assumes the responsibilities of the Safety Director in their absence

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:



  • At least one year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic, Advanced or Paramedic, or the U.S. Military equivalent
  • Three or more years of experience as a hyperbaric technician with multiplace chamber or the U.S. military equivalent
  • Successful completion of a UHMS approved Hyperbaric Medicine Team Training course
  • Certified as a Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Register Nurse (CHRN)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Two-year degree in a safety-related field of education, or Bachelor of Science degree
  • Successful completion of a UHMS approved course for Hyperbaric Safety Technologist/Director
  • Successful completion and certification of a safety course such as ATMO course
