Job Summary

The Nursing Professional Development Adult Clinical Services Manager has close collaboration with the department director to ensure team goals are in accordance with overall department strategic plan. Manages the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinical nursing education programs, objectives, and policies. Provides direct oversight for a team of nursing professional development practitioners with a primary focus on adult in-patient and procedural clinical services

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $235,840 - $250,289 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Center for Nursing Excellence and Innovation is a Nursing support department with four main functions: Nursing Professional Development, Nursing Practice and Research, Nursing Quality and Analytics, and Nursing Continuous Improvement and Affiliate Relations. The Nursing Professional Development team includes Nursing Professional Development Specialists and Generalists who oversee the training and education needs for the Department of Nursing. The Nursing Practice and Research team includes Clinical Nurse Specialists, Advanced Practice Specialists and Clinical Nurse Researchers who oversee practice standards that optimize quality and safety outcomes and oversee the process for clinical inquiry for the Department of Nursing, evidence-based practice, research, and innovation. The Nursing Quality and Analytics arm supports the development and dissemination of nursing quality outcomes, quality improvement initiatives, identification of process metrics, as well as the support of clinical inquiry analytics. The Nursing Continuous Improvement and Affiliate Relations team oversee continuous improvement processes and relationship building with affiliate organizations.

The mission of the Center for Nursing Excellence is to prepare, support, and sustain skill acquisition, life-long learning, and clinical inquiry that promotes excellence in patient and family care with the vision of creating, optimizing, and innovating to provide the best clinical practice, education and training, and research at the point of care.

Required Qualifications


  • Minimum 7 years total working experience in-patient adult clinical care, nursing education and/or clinical leadership roles
  • Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in education and training program development and implementation, nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly identify problems and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong project management, interpersonal and communications skills to implement education and training activities across a broad spectrum of nursing and clinical departments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements , as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.
  • Knowledge of relevant health care information technology.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree (DNP or PhD)

License/Certification


  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited nursing program or equivalent
  • Master's degree in nursing or other healthcare related major
