Role Overview: We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager/Director to lead our engineers in architecting, implementing, delivering, and operating our Monitoring API Platforms services. This role is crucial for maintaining the high availability and reliability of our services, which are essential to Salesforce's operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the vision for Monitoring API Platforms, overseeing services like API Platforms, Grafana, and several developer productivity tools to help Salesforce engineers onboard to the Monitoring Platform and services offered by the cloud.
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable monitoring and analytics services for various business needs.
- Guide the development of large-scale distributed systems, ensuring they reliably process billions of data points.
Proactively identify reliability and data quality issues, driving the triaging and remediation process. - Work closely with cross-functional teams, including architects, product owners, and engineers, to deliver features and make critical product decisions.
- Lead daily stand-ups as the Scrum Master for engineering teams, align team objectives with priorities, and ensure adequate resources for project success.
- Foster a positive team culture, provide technical guidance, and support career development for team members.
- Occasionally contribute to development tasks such as coding and feature verifications to assist teams with release commitments and to keep your technical skills sharp.
Your Impact:
- Drive the vision and execution of Monitoring API Platforms, owning a suite of services like API Platforms, Grafana, and several developer productivity tools.
- Build and lead a team to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure monitoring and analytics services.
- Ensure high availability (99.95%+) of critical Tier 1 services.
- Shape and execute our product vision, blending customer-centric principles with innovative technology.
- Proactively foresee and resolve issues before they impact the product.
Required Skills & Experience:
- B.S./M.S. in Computer Science or a related field.
- 10+ years of software development experience, with 3+ years in team management.
- Experience building services on public cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Proficiency in Java or similar languages.
- Proven track record with large-scale distributed systems and microservices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to be flexible, proactive, and comfortable working with minimal specifications.
- Experience with short release cycles, the full software lifecycle, and working on products released for public consumption.
- Expertise in hiring, mentoring, and leading engineering teams.
- Knowledge of software engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, SCM, CI, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and product management to understand requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Expertise in data processing techniques.
- Experience with building and operating observability platforms.
- Familiarity with container orchestration systems like Kubernetes, Docker etc.
- Proficiency with open-source technologies like Elastic Search, Kafka, Grafana, and Terraform.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $200,800 to $334,600.
