Position Announcement

The Psychology Department at Utah Tech University in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Psychology, specialty area open. The preferred candidate will possess a doctoral degree in Psychology (or related field) and complement existing faculty specializations. The ideal candidate will contribute to neurodiversity initiatives on campus and/or expand the department's efforts to incorporate AI into the training of scientifically literate Psychology students.

The Psychology Department is a robust program that includes an undergraduate program in Psychology and a graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy. Responsibilities

This full-time, tenure-track position involves teaching responsibilities within the Psychology Department, including lower-division and upper-division courses. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to fulfill service and scholarship commensurate with the expectations of a faculty member at a regional comprehensive university like Utah Tech University.

The specific expectations for the successful candidate will be to:

  • Teach 24 credit hours of courses each academic year, consisting of courses within the undergraduate psychology program. Course assignments will be made by the Department Chair, taking into account departmental needs and the expertise of faculty. Course assignments will include:
    • Core Psychology courses (e.g., APA Writing, Statistical Methods, Research Methods, Senior Capstone, History of Psychology)
    • Other Psychology courses that relate to the faculty member's expertise, including existing courses (e.g., Applied Research Methods) and potentially new courses (e.g., relating to neurodiversity).
    • As needed, lower-division General Education courses (e.g., General Psychology, Human Development).
  • Participate in teaching and learning seminars and activities designed to promote and develop instructional knowledge and skills.
  • Attend department, division, and college faculty meetings, and work with other faculty and staff in improving the overall education experience of Psychology students.
  • Participate in additional service activities, including department, college or university committees, to fulfill the service requirements expected of a typical full-time tenure-track faculty member.
  • Develop and maintain a scholarly agenda that is appropriate to a regional, comprehensive, polytechnic teaching university. Research and other scholarly work that involves UT students is highly valued.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additionally, the successful candidate may:

  • Work as part of a team consisting of faculty and staff to improve the student experience for neurodiverse students on campus utilizing dedicated space in the new Classroom Building.
  • Work with existing faculty and the Department Chair to reimagine curriculum associated with training students to become scientifically literate, utilizing tools including a variety of AI platforms.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology or related field from an accredited college or university required. ABD may be considered if the degree is awarded prior to July 2025.
  • Evidence of potential for successful teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI and other technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and productively with specialists in other academic disciplines.
  • An eagerness to engage with colleagues, staff, administrators and community organizations to develop ways to improve the educational experience for our students.
  • The ideal candidate would seek external funding relating to initiatives around improving institutional access for neurodiverse community members and students, and/or adapting the curriculum to utilize AI and technology more effectively.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2025, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $62,000 - $65,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
