Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Financial Analyst 3 to join our dynamic Finance Team in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DPBS). You will be part of a dynamic Financial Services Team where collaboration and mentorship are at the heart of everything we do. Whether you're working on complex financial analysis, budget management, or providing high-quality support to Faculty, you'll benefit from a wealth of knowledge and expertise within the team. In this position, you will take the lead as the Department contact responsible for all Other Support (OS) and Joint Personnel Agreements (JPA) actions for Department research Faculty. OS and JPA process management includes gathering and submission of required documents to Faculty, Department Post Awards, Campus, OSR, and VA/NCIRE ensuring full compliance to both internal and external offices and agencies.

The position involves financial analysis and support for the Finance team, including Clinical funding management support to the Clinical Finance Lead analyst. This is a nice opportunity to work directly with Finance Leadership and learn more about the full workings of such a large and uniquely dynamic Department.

The ideal candidate will process accurate, timely and appropriate financial transactions and tasks, utilize effective communication skills in interactions with multiple client groups, and apply solid time and task management to all timelines and expectations. This includes researching, analyzing and applying all pertinent Departmental and University policies, procedures and regulations as required. The position is directive and largely independent, with a focus on in advancing process optimization and job development. Other important responsibilities include attending and actively participating in team meetings, and engaging the strong team support in the Finance team. This position demands a high level of ethics and professional standards to handle sensitive matters with tact and sound judgment.

This position offers a hybrid-remote work schedule, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, while fostering team engagement and connection with on-site work on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $85,700 - $128,600 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum three years of experience or equivalent experience / training.
  • Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
  • Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments.
  • Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to function as a member of a team.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
