We have an opportunity for a talented & ambitious electrical engineer to join us as our new Substation Group Manager. This position is Remote based in Houston, TX.


As our Substation Group Manager, you will be a lead engineer for new and ongoing substation projects and provide technical guidance and oversight to substation teams. You will support multiple projects simultaneously and work closely with NV5 Substation Engineering leadership. You will be working in small project teams to provide exceptional customer service and quality deliverables to our clients as well as training and mentorship to junior engineers.



Responsibilities

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    Prepare construction drawings, documents, calculations, and studies for medium and high voltage substation projects.
  • Responsible for technical delivery of power delivery engineering projects or tasks.
  • Prepare calculations, studies, and reports for substation and power systems projects meeting internal and client standards and requirements.
  • Apply engineering design principles and practices including formulas.
  • Work with small project teams to execute substation projects.
  • Responsible for providing weekly updates to Sr. team leaders and/or project managers on milestone progress, estimated completion dates including percent completion of activities and supporting information to monitor project progress.
  • Training and Mentorship of assigned staff.
  • Responsibility for profit and loss on projects.


Qualifications

We are seeking the following qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in the Substation/Power Delivery field.

  • Experience with high voltage substation design (15kV through 500kV) activities such as preparing one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams, physical layouts, electrical elevations, plans (equipment, grounding, and raceway), and bills of materials including selection of non-standard equipment.

  • Ability to interpret and apply standards including IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client standards.

  • Experience with power system calculations (AC station service, DC battery sizing, and Voltage Drop/Cable Selection).

  • Knowledge of substation physical equipment.

  • Knowledge of Protection and Controls design.

  • B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • PE license is required.
