Adjunct Clinical Faculty members assist course Faculty in implementing the clinical component of a nursing program. In accordance with established nursing standards, the Adjunct Clinical Faculty supervises student practice by providing guidance, direction and support appropriate to the clinical situation. This role also evaluates student performance in the clinical setting and provides feedback on the student's performance to course faculty.

Responsibilities:



  • Promotes a positive learning environment in classroom, on-campus labs and clinical sites
  • Advises nursing students on course, program, and career issues
  • Evaluates each student's achievement and progress; recommends strategies for success and tutors students to assist them in meeting course objectives
  • Refers nursing students to nursing lab for skill development as needed
  • Works collaboratively with the course Faculty member to implement the clinical component of a nursing course
  • Assigns observational experiences within the clinical day which are appropriate to meet course objectives
  • Includes completion of the clinical evaluation tools and grading of required student paperwork
  • Evaluates the student's experience, achievement and progress in relation to the clinical objectives and outcomes established for the course
  • Summarizes the data and reports findings to the student and the course Faculty
  • Participates in course meetings held by the course Faculty
  • Provides evaluative data related to the clinical site to the course Faculty and participates in evaluation of courses under the direction of the course faculty
  • Orients nursing students to the clinical site as well as to pertinent policy and procedures
  • Establishes and communicates clinical objectives within the course framework to students, preceptor and staff at the clinical site
  • Plans the student clinical experience consistent with course outcomes, established clinical learning objectives and student learning needs
  • Assures student assignments are understood by students and clearly communicated to staff
  • Supervises student experiences in accordance with OAC Chapter 4723-5-20
  • Acts an ambassador of the College at all times when interacting with colleagues, staff, students,
    patients and families
  • Participates in evaluative studies related to program improvement


Position Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) is required
  • Experience of at least two years full-time in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse or part-time equivalent
  • Active and unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse in the state of IN
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (BCLS) compliant with the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to supervise nursing students and provide direction at a clinical site
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve or recommend solutions to moderately complex problems
  • Ability to coordinate student assignments
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact diplomatically with a variety of individuals at various organizational levels
  • Knowledge of nursing theories, standards, and practice
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act and ability to differentiate between LPN and RN scope of practice
  • General knowledge of teaching-learning strategies utilized in nursing education and outcomes assessment
