DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Therapeutic Activities Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising therapeutic recreation services at the Southeastern Veterans Center. Specific duties include planning, organizing, and directing the delivery of recreational and psychosocial activities for residents on nursing, personal, and domiciliary care units. This professional interviews and assesses residents upon admission to ascertain their interests and evaluate their abilities. You will complete evaluations and develop short and long term goals in order to implement programs that are goal oriented to the needs of the individual. Documentation must be completed regarding goals and objectives for every program.


Supervisory tasks involve
scheduling and assigning work, evaluating employee performance, approving or denying leave requests, initiating progressive disciplinary measures, conducting performance management, and participating in the interview process. Within this role, it is essential to ensure ongoing adherence to HIPPA standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours/week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Schedule may be flexible.
  • Evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Therapeutic Activities Worker (commonwealth title); or
  • Two years of professional experience providing therapeutic activities for individuals with physical, medical, or cognitive disabilities; and a bachelor's degree with major coursework in therapeutic recreation; physical education; vocational rehabilitation; vocational education or counseling; art, music, dance, or occupational therapies; or a related human services field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • Candidates for this position in the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs must possess, at time of application, active certification as an Activity Director Certified (ADC) or Activity Consultant Certified (ACC) as issued by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP); or valid certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) as issued by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
