Primary Purpose of the Position |
The Department of Health, Physical Education, and Sport Studies at Winston-Salem State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Health Education. We seek exceptional candidates with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence and mentoring undergraduate research, interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations, and engagement and service to the broader public. While the specific area of research specialty is open, we welcome interests from candidates with backgrounds in nutrition, health disparities, community health, and physical education. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with interests in working collaboratively to enhance the strengths of curricular and co-curricular programs across the arts, humanities, social sciences, business, and education. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Department of Health, Physical Education and Sport Studies provides courses in several critical content areas. We currently serve the
WSSU community through our Health Education offering. Additionally, we offer undergraduates the chance to earn their Bachelor of Science in the following areas: Motorsports Management, Physical Education, and Sport Management. Additional, Health, Physical Education and Sport Studies offers minors in coaching and sports medicine. |

All applicants must have a Ph.D. or have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. at the time of appointment in physical education, public health or a related field. The successful candidate will teach courses in the Health Education program, a general service program providing courses for the General Education Program and other related majors. The Department of Health, Physical Education, and Sport Studies invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor Faculty position. The successful candidate will teach three or more courses in either face-to-face or online modalities and must communicate continuously with students as s/he monitors student progress for student success. The successful candidate must hold office hours each week, meet with the program coordinator regularly, and consistently attend Departmental and College meetings.
We are seeking an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to working in an environment devoted to collaboration, collegiality, professional development, diversity, scholarly inquiry, student learning, and civic responsibility. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a record of research or high potential for future research productivity that produces publications in peer-reviewed journals within the discipline area or within peer-reviewed journals that promote the teaching and learning of the discipline, facilitate presentations at well-respected professional conferences, and engage in the procurement of extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams. |
