The Opportunity

The Department of Humanities & Communication seeks a non-tenure-track assistant professor to teach speech courses on our Daytona Beach campus, beginning August 2025. This position includes a 4-4 teaching load with modest service expectations and the opportunity for research and travel support. While this position is focused on speech, we especially seek candidates who also have experience teaching writing and/or humanities courses.

About the Department of Humanities and Communication and the College of Arts and Sciences

In addition to offering general education courses in writing, humanities, and communication at a STEM-focused university, the department of Humanities and Communication delivers academic programs in Communication and Interdisciplinary Studies, with minors in Humanities, Communication, Latin American Studies, Arabic Studies, Russian Studies, and Chinese Studies. The department has 38 full-time faculty members.

The College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) is the interdisciplinary hub of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Our world-class programs span from the sciences to the humanities with a focus on preparing our students for careers in aerospace, government, and a wide variety of industries. We additionally deliver innovative foundational and general education courses for all Daytona Beach students.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Preferred candidates will hold a Ph.D. in Communication, English, or a closely related discipline. Applicants who are ABD and scheduled to graduate before August 2025 will also be considered.

  • The ideal candidate will have a record of teaching excellence at the college level, a commitment to general education, and a keen interest in the unique opportunity to teach communication and writing at a STEM-oriented institution.
