This role, which reports to the Americas Operations HYCO Plant Process Engineering Director, is accountable for process engineering leadership, productivity improvement, and operations/business support for the 13+ hydrogen plants comprising the Western Region in California and Canada.

The West Coast HYCO Plant Process Engineering (PPE) Manager will direct a team of 6-8 Plant Process Engineers located across California and Canada. The Manager will work effectively with operations leadership, commercial teams, operations engineering, and corporate engineering. Expected travel across the Western Region is 25%.

Responsibilities of the West Coast HYCO PPE Manager include:

  • Lead team of 6-8 Plant Process Engineers. This scope includes hiring, objectives setting/performance accountability, Talent Management process, and personnel development. He or she is charged with maintaining a high level of motivation, innovation, teamwork, and contribution among this team of engineers. Team members will have appropriate training to regularly use the full suite of engineering tools available.

  • Identify and develop plant capacity and productivity projects that meet business needs. Provide technical direction/support on efforts to acquire and integrate HYCO facilities into Air Products business and operations. Provide necessary leadership to ensure projects are developed and implemented with an emphasis on safety and reliability.

  • Support operating teams to ensure they are meeting their efficiency, capacity, and reliability goals. Although primary day-to-day responsibility lies with this manager's reports, the manager is accountable and is expected to provide and/or obtain additional expertise as needed to resolve issues.

  • Prioritize support of operations to ensure Air Products' compliance with EH&S requirements. This support includes compliance with process safety programs (e.g., Management of Change, Operating Plant Hazard Reviews) and personnel safety requirements.

  • Lead and/or support fleet-wide initiatives, including but not limited to Best Practices, Event Management action items, Process Condition Monitoring, catalyst optimization, reformer temperature balancing, Advanced Controls, and Multi-Plant Optimizations (MPO)/Multi-Variable Optimizations (MVO) applications.

  • Provide support during turnarounds to ensure catalyst changeouts and other process engineering related MOCs, capital projects, inspections and discovery resolutions are appropriately staffed and executed.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering preferred; other Engineering degrees will be considered.

  • 15-20 years of combined experience in technical, operations and/or engineering capacities. Formal or informal supervisory experience would be very beneficial.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to foster an environment of open communication, innovation, trust, personal and professional growth.

  • Operating and/or engineering experience with HYCO (hydrogen, CO, syngas) technologies is required.

  • Project development and execution experience; ideally project retrofit projects.

  • Operations support, including plant trouble-shooting experience.

  • Quantitative, value-driven, decision making.

  • Experience managing remote reports is a plus.

The expected pay range for the job varies based on location. In California, the expected pay range is $166,400 - $ 214,350 plus bonus. Outside of California, the expected range is $122,470 - $199,360 plus bonus. These are the ranges we reasonably expect to pay for this position as individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
