Assistant Professor - Art History

The Art Program within the School of Visual + Performing Arts at Tulsa Community College seeks a qualified candidate for an Assistant Professor of Art History position. Such candidate will recognize this opportunity as one positioned to develop and sustain a growing Arts Program on an urban campus. TCC is in the heart of downtown Tulsa, a metropolitan area with a thriving Arts District, an international arts fellowship, notable green spaces, and museums.

Primary responsibilities include developing a global core-curriculum to be used across multiple sections of Art History Survey and General Education courses, such as Art Appreciation. Successful candidate will incorporate a variety of instructional delivery methods to effectively engage students. A typical course load is 15 credit hours or equivalent per semester. Faculty members are responsible for active participation in student recruitment, student retention, and community/program events, including: visiting artist lectures, workshops, exhibitions, etc. Successful candidate will seek to cultivate an environment where all students feel valued and supported, while facilitating academic discourse about art and society from both historical and contemporary perspectives.

Master's degree in Art History or related field.

Teaching Philosophy compatible with that of a comprehensive urban community college.

Experience with online course learning software (ex. Blackboard, Canvas, etc.)

Collaborate with other faculty in the leadership Art Program.

Strong organizational, recordkeeping and administrative skills.

Ability to work independently, setting priorities and with good follow through.

PhD in Art History or related field.

Experience developing and implementing courses that use OER (online educational resource) materials.

Previous teaching experience (2 years post-graduate school preferred).

Disciplinary expertise in Native American, Indigenous, or Latin American Art.
