Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Central University's Information Technology Services ( ITS) provides information technology services to schools and departments, administrators, staff, students and the growing population of on-line and distance education students. The objectives of ITS are to improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the administrators, faculty and staff at NCCU through the use of technology; enhance the teaching, learning and research process through the use of technology; and to provide adequate support of the technology that is deployed. The Classroom Support division of Computer, Classroom, and Event Support provides technology support to faculty and staff, including classroom technology equipment break/fix, configuration, design, implementation, training, and general oversight.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position serves as IT Analyst/Programmer I for the computer support division of CCES. The position provides advanced one-on-one support and troubleshooting for faculty and staff technology. Perform basic computer break/fix in departmental computer labs across campus. This includes advanced hardware and software support on campus-licensed standard equipment, and coordination of any imaging process. This position serves as the main support for computer labs and learning spaces on campus, as well as backup for classroom support.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledgeable in standard software packages (i.e. Microsoft Office) that are present on campus, in addition to specialized software and hardware, and ability to troubleshoot these packages. Ability to manage campus computer systems through use of the management system ( SCCM and JAMF). Basic Apple/Mac troubleshooting skills. Several years' experience in computer technologies and their specifics as they relate to the modern higher education experience. Associate's degree and/or at least 2 years technical training in Information Technology or a related field; or 2 years' experience in the operation and maintenance of a variety of office and classroom technology equipment. Must have a strong technical background and also have the ability to effectively communicate technical information to a potentially non-technical audience.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties


Function Planning and Organizing

The ability to take ownership of tasks, to work independently, the ability to organize and follow technical procedures; knowledge of systems and equipment (including SCCM and JAMF management consoles), with an ability to work on both Windows and Apple hardware and software; ability to resolve routine and non-routine problems, customer service skills. Knowledge of Macs, PC, equipment/software and ticketing software applications. Ability to document and maintain accurate records and create documentation as requested.


Function Technical Knowledge
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Perform desk side service of customers, including and up to, troubleshooting, testing/diagnostics, computer imaging and setup, and upgrades, as well as preventative maintenance of equipment. Technician may also use remote support, using deployment console to remotely assist customers, including trouble shooting, upgrades and installations


Function Technical Support
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Install, test and maintain hardware and software. Ensure that equipment is operational;
Perform Mac, PC and other technology hardware and software diagnostics, troubleshooting and problem resolution.


Function Communication

Provide ITS support during special events, such as orientation, registration, graduation, etc. Provide documentation of activities. Provide documentation to knowledge base of processes
