THE JOB:
AsFiltration Life Support System Specialist at Shark Reef Aquarium in Mandalay Bay, you are an essential part of guest experience. Your approachable, and personable demeanor, coupled with your dedication to perform preventative maintenance and repairs on life support equipment, will set the stage for the memories that guests can carry with them well past their stay with us. By maintain the daily operation of the aquatic and terrestrial animal life support systems, you play a crucial role in elevating the overall guest experience.

THE STARTING PAY: $20.96

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on life support equipment such as pumps, motors, air compressors, heat exchangers, ozone generators and piping

  • Operate, control, maintain, and retrofit life support and water process piping system and controls for a 1.6-million-gallon world-class aquarium facility

  • Monitor and check filters, backwashing according to schedule, and make adjustments including checking exhibit temperatures and levels, monitoring ozone generator and settings

  • Conducting thorough monitoring of water quality, covering temperature, salinity, pH, ORP, and clarity, adhering to aquarium standards

  • Assists in the mixing of synthetic sea salts to produce an essential ongoing supply of saltwater for exhibit specimens

  • Maintain frequent and effective communication with the Life Support Systems Manager

  • Maintain and repair electric motors ranging in size from horsepower to 25 horsepower and pumps up to 1,500 gallonsper minute

  • Collaborate closely with the aquarists with handling of fish and reptiles as directed

  • Complete daily records and maintain operational logs

  • Performs other job-related duties as requested

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Is a minimum of 18 years of age

  • Must currently hold or be willing to obtain open water SCUBA dive certification

  • Has a high school diploma, GED or equivalenteducation experience

  • Has experience with aquarium systems and a strong understanding of water chemistry

  • Has prior experience working with centrifugal pumps and motors

  • Has prior experience with municipal water, water processing, wastewater systems, or aquatic animal life support system

  • Is committed to animal welfare

  • Is comfortable working effectively indoors and outdoors

  • Has a flexible schedule and ability to work grave shift, weekends, and holidays
