Vice President, Commercial Retention and Growth

The VP, Commercial Sales and Retention is accountable for developing and executing Commercial net client growth and retention plans based on Medica's corporate goals and objectives. This role oversees the Commercial sales and account management teams for MN, NE, and the Dakotas, working closely with the Regional Market President and Market Leaders to build and enhance relationships with providers, brokers, government, community, and members.

This VP, Commercial Sales and Retention sets direction, supervises staff and monitors activities that enhance key Commercial brokerage relationships, lead identification, target prospecting, RFP strategy development, product innovation, and sale closure. The role works closely with the business development team for geographic expansion, and influences product development by providing marketplace input on financial decisions.

Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, sales, finance or related
  • Minimum of 10 years' work experience in related field
  • Health plan experience required; commercial markets and/or brokerage experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to set, monitor and implement strategic plans
  • Proven leadership experience, with a strong ability to manage, inspire, and lead people


Skills and Abilities:



  • Able to operate in a highly independent and team-oriented environment.
  • Prefer a successful track record of managing customer and distributor relationship of varying sizes, locations, complexities, and sophistication.
  • Strong sales skills and experience.
  • Strong executive verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to understand rating formulas, analyze claim risks, and articulate benefit plans and competitor pricing.
  • Skilled at negotiating proposals, both with underwriting and external customers, to produce profitable results.
  • Experienced customer service skills to handle conflict with pricing, claims and service issues.
  • Able to develop creative solutions to meet customer's unique needs.
  • Results focused, able to manage multiple projects and priorities; strong customer presence, customer service orientation and project leadership.


This position is an Office role, which requires an employee to work from the designated office, Minnetonka, on average, 2+ times per week.

The full base pay salary range for this position is $224,000 - $336,000. Annual base pay salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and or licensures, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data.

In addition to base compensation, this position is eligible for Medica's Short Term Incentive plan, Long Term Incentive plan and our Supplemental Executive Retirement Plan.
