Job Summary

The Social Work Health Care Supervisor 2 provides a wide range of Clinical Social Services to all patients and providers at UC Davis Medical Center. The Social Work Health Care Supervisor 2 provides direct supervision and training to MSWs, LCSWs, graduate social work students, and administrative personnel.

The Social Work Health Care Supervisor 2 assists the Clinical Social Services Manager with the daily operations of the department, which provides services 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. The Social Work Health Care Supervisor 2 position is a 100% Supervising LCSW role within the Department of Clinical Social Services.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Use the Clinical Social Work process to assess, plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate patient care needs and activities of the Crisis Team LCSWs
  • Identify and oversee the implementation of social work interventions, and assess outcomes for diverse patient populations
  • Serve as a resource for other LCSW Crisis Team members
  • Provide training and delegate tasks
  • Promote compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Coordination of activities, e.g., collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, and other departments, consulting with other LCSWs
  • Monitors the quality of social work services being delivered by assigned LCSW staff
  • Deliver comprehensive patient-centered care
  • Crisis interventions, social work assessments, documentation, planning, implementation, teaching, and ongoing evaluation of social work care plans
  • Coordinate health and mental health services with community providers
  • Proactive supervision during each work shift
  • Maintain patient and family satisfaction

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and/or certification if required for the position

  • A valid California Board of Behavioral Sciences License Clinical Social Worker license without restrictions
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited School of Social Work
  • Three years of clinical/direct service experience post-licensure within an acute care hospital setting
  • At least two years of Supervisor experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Demonstrated experience supervising program-level data collection as part of quality improvement or outcomes evaluation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: verbal, written, and listening
  • Ability to convey instructions, directions, and information appropriately and accurately
  • Ability to work diplomatically with a wide variety of people. Ability to work as a team member
  • Ability to work well as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team and demonstrate respectful and collaborative communication is required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict successfully and respectfully
  • Ability to work independently, organize a schedule to complete tasks on time, and complete documentation or other projects in a timely fashion is required
  • Demonstrated ability to organize a variety of concurrent activities, set realistic goals and objectives, plan, and meet deadlines without compromising quality
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to exercise discretion and make independent judgments, with decisions reviewed by the department manager if they represent a departure from departmental goals
  • Ability to direct the actions of others effectively to accomplish tasks and function
  • Skills, knowledge, and ability to support the policies and procedures of the Department of Clinical Social Services and U.C. Davis Health System
  • Ability to coach, mentor, teach, and provide counseling to employees

  • Knowledge of child abuse, elder abuse, and domestic violence reporting requirements, and other significant legislation and laws regulating social work practice, e.g., Tarasoff, patient confidentiality, etc. Ability to make appropriate interventions based on law and professional ethics
  • Ability to provide consultation, interpret clinical findings and diagnosis, make recommendations regarding treatment, care, and disposition
  • Knowledge of suicidal behavior, the ability to assess lethality, and the ability to develop appropriate safety plans with the patient and provide recommendations for follow-up care to the interdisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and guidelines for providing psychiatric services including the appropriate use of the 5I50 application
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively use the current DSM manual

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialty social work certification from accredited organizations such as the NASW, ACMA, etc.
  • 2 years of supervisor experience in a healthcare setting post-licensure

Department Overview

The mission of the Department of Clinical Social Services is to provide compassionate, comprehensive, high-quality Clinical Social Services to restore and enhance the biopsychosocial functioning of patients and their families. Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) support patients with conditions that span the entire health continuum. Clinical Social Services staff are on-site at UC Davis Medical Center 24 hours a day and seven days a week. LCSWs work collaboratively and in concert with physicians, nurses, utilization management, discharge planners, and other allied health professionals. Clinical Social Services staff assist patients and their families by addressing and resolving the social, financial, and psychological problems related to their health condition and facilitating patient movement through the health continuum.
