Job Summary
#48XAdminsupport This position reports directly to the PO&M's Superintendent of the Paint & Sign Shop. The role of this position is to prepare various surfaces for painting or wall covering by washing, patching, drywall finish materials using brushes/rollers/conventional spray equipment and airless spray equipment; planning and erecting ladders and/or staging with due regard for safety requirements, work on approved scaffolding and provide interior and exterior signage for all UCDH facilities and grounds. - Valid California Driver's License
- 1 year journey-level experience in the painting trade.
- Experience cleaning and/or preparing surfaces to receive paint or wallcovering, includes washing, patching, masking, sanding, drywall finishing and texturing to ensure proper adherence.
- Experience in applying undercoats and finish materials using brushes/rollers and conventional spray equipment.
- Experience in applying paint to surfaces including canvas, walls, floors, doors, and cabinets.
- Experience of practices and methods in the painting trade, including safety procedures, the tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in the painting trade.
- Ability to mix, match and apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel and other finishes.
- Ability to scrape, sandpaper, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting.
- Knowledge of practices and methods in the painting trade, including safety procedures, the tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in the painting trade.
- Oral skills to effectively communicate with co-workers, Supervisors/Superintendents, Manager, customers and vendors.
- Must be able to see and read well enough to understand written work instructions, technical manuals, blueprints, computer screens, printouts, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Work from detailed plans and oral directions in accordance with applicable codes.
- Prepare/finish furniture (cabinet desks, etc.) in spray booth.
- Mix and identify colors currently in use.
- Perform duties of street striping, parking lot striping and curb painting.
- Measure walls for the amount of wall covering needed, order wall covering, layout, paste trim and hand wall covering.
- Must be able to see and read well enough to understand written work instructions, technical manuals, blueprints, computer screens, printouts, etc.
- Skills to work upon approved scaffolding
- Must be able to adjust priorities to accomplish objectives in a changing work environment.

Department Overview The Plant Operations & Maintenance (PO&M) Department is a 24 hour, seven day a week operation responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of buildings, systems, and grounds at UC Davis Health that includes 148 acres and structures that total 4 million GMSF. Plant Operations & Maintenance is one of the largest operations and maintenance support providers to clinical, administrative, research, SOM and SON departments throughout the Health System. UC Davis Health is one of several UC campuses that have their own cogeneration, central power plants. Cogeneration (Combined Heat and Power or CHP) is the simultaneous production of electricity and heat, both of which are used throughout the Medical Center Campus and is supported by Plant Operations & Maintenance 24x7x365.
