Summary:

The Intern role provides administrative and project support within assigned department, while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in a healthcare environment.

The MaineHealth Food Pantry Portland (MHFPP) is a hospital-based food pantry providing healthy food to community members who are experiencing food insecurity. The pantry is no barrier access and is open to all. It is set up like a small grocery store where visitors can shop for high-quality, free food for their entire household. The pantry prioritizes fresh, local and culturally important foods as much as possible. Making sure that everyone has access to nourishing food is an important part of the MaineHealth mission: working together so our communities are the healthiest in America. The food pantry is made possible through partnerships with community-based organizations such as Good Shepherd Food Bank and Wayside Food Programs.

The MaineHealth Food Pantry Portland (MHFPP) seeks support with preparing the pantry for open days, being an active part of open day distributions, and helping to move special projects forward. We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and providing compassionate customer service. Strong applicants will be self-starters, clear communicators, problem solvers and collaborators with a passion for increasing access to healthy, culturally important food for all.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

* Support pantry operations including, but not limited to, unloading deliveries, restocking shelves, portioning produce, and sweeping and tidying. Interns will also support open days at the food pantry, responsibilities including, intake, assisting shoppers, restocking, supporting staff and volunteers.
*Support program planning, refinement, and evaluation activities, may include patron surveys, research on best-practices, development/testing of new processes
* Project-based work - may include food as medicine, health/nutrition education, communications and/or activities aligning with applicant's interests and goals.

Preference will be given to undergraduate students pursuing food systems, social sciences or public health studies. Preference also given to students who are Spanish, French, Portuguese and/or Lingala speakers.

1. Education: Student who is currently enrolled in a two-year Associate's Degree program, Bachelor's Degree program, or graduate-level program preferred.
