Entry-Level Construction Materials Professional

S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate entry-level Construction Materials Professional to join our Construction Services team in Florence, South Carolina. Are you ready to contribute your education and knowledge to meaningful projects? Join us at S&ME!

As an entry-level Construction Materials Professional, you will be vital in ensuring quality and safety by assessing and verifying construction materials, performing field and laboratory testing, and supporting project engineers/managers in delivering solutions to challenging construction projects.

Your Day-to-Day:



  • Collaborate with Experts: Work closely with licensed engineers and senior staff to learn and grow in construction materials testing and inspection.
  • Field Testing: Perform testing and inspections on construction materials, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
  • Data Management: Accurately document field activities and test results using software such as Metafield to maintain project integrity and efficiency.
  • Proposal and Report Preparation: Assist in preparing project proposals and reports, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with client needs.
  • Client Support: Communicate with clients and project stakeholders, providing updates and ensuring project goals are met effectively.



What You Bring:



  • A bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Construction Engineering, or a related field (or the ability to obtain it within six months)
  • EIT certification or the ability to obtain it within six months of hire, a plus
  • A basic understanding of construction plans and specifications
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn industry-specific software
  • A commitment to obtaining relevant certifications (e.g., ICC, ACI, DOT) in areas like aggregates, asphalt, soil, reinforced concrete, or masonry



Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:



  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
