Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Genetic Counselor - Woodhull.

In this role, the successful candidate provides genetic counseling to pregnant couples regarding their possible risk for chromosomal and other genetic abnormalities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and update patient and/or physician educational materials
  • Gathers information on family history
  • Explains natural history of etiology of conditions pertinent to patient
  • Explains chromosome and genetic defects neural tube defects and testings
  • Provides follow up counseling and assessment as needed
  • Schedules appointments based on referrals and screening results
  • Coordinates testing follow up and as needed management of patients with genetic disorders
  • Performs independent genetic consultation with parents individuals or families of children or adults with diagnosed or potential genetic conditions
  • Reviews and assess patients medical physical and psychosocial status
  • Acts as patient advocate for medical care as well as handling with educational and governmental agencies
  • Interprets genetic laboratory and genetic diagnostic tests for patient and/or providers
  • Counsels and teaches patient and/or family about the various aspects of the specific genetic diagnosis
  • Provides crisis grief and bereavement counseling as necessary
  • Makes referral to community resources or national support groups

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's of Science in Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 years of previous experience with genetic testing and counseling of obstetrical patients

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67,771.14 - $112,951.35 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
