Assistant Development Director-The Salvation Army Kroc Center

Job Objective:

As the Assistant Development Director, you will support the organization's fundraising goals by focusing on securing grants and coordinating external events. This role involves collaborating closely with the Development Director to identify grant opportunities, write compelling proposals, and manage events to engage donors and partners ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:



  • Research, identify, and pursue grant opportunities that align with the organization's mission and objectives.
  • Develop, write, and submit well-crafted grant proposals, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with grant funders, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
  • Track grant applications, deadlines, and reporting requirements, ensuring timely submission and compliance.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events, including donor receptions, community outreach activities, and other fundraising events.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials and event content.
  • Analyze event and grant performance metrics to refine strategies for future fundraising initiatives.
  • Support the Development Director in preparing presentations, data, and reports for board meetings and other organizational updates
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership


Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications or a related field.

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: 3+ years of experience in grant writing, event planning, or nonprofit development. Equivalent combinations of education and experience which, at the sole discretion of The Salvation Army, provide the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform in this role, will be considered

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm within the first 30 days of employment

Skills/Abilities:



  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.

  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity

Travel: As needed

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment; May require some evening and weekend work
