Precertification Specialist, Center For Child Development Part Time Day

POSITION SUMMARY:

To support the Center for Child Development. Serves as a point of contact for patients, referring physician offices and insurance providers. Responsible for providing a variety of services with a focus on insurance verification and prior authorization processing, tracking utilization of authorized services to ensure appropriate insurance coverage, patient education on coverage, and rectifying any precertification lapses. Other duties may include answering phones, pre-registration, registration, scheduling, fax and file management including the EMR, patient/department support, materials/inventory management, education/development and unit-specific tasks for regulatory compliance.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of formal business/medical training preferred.
Experience with insurance pre-authorization preferred, experience with a pediatric preferred.

Schedule is as follows:

Monday & Weds 2p-7p Tuesday & Thursday: 8a-1p Friday: Off Saturday: Every 3rd Saturday: 8a-1p (instead of Thursday) Sunday: Closed

EXPERIENCE:
At least 3 to 6 months of experience as a Business Assistant or equivalent experience. Computer Experience A knowledge of Windows environment. Previous customer service experience required. Healthcare experience required; knowledge of medical coding preferred. Medical terminology knowledge required. Minimum of 2-3 years of healthcare experience in obtaining and handling pre-authorizations preferred.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. * Ability to work cooperatively with health system, patients, family members, and multidisciplinary team members. Ability to interact with patients in stressful situations and changing work environments related to changing patient needs. * Effective organizational and critical thinking skills, (e.g., analytical, problem-solving, decision making, prioritizing, time management, etc.) in order to set priorities, perform job related responsibilities, and respond quickly to changing situations * Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision. Ability to handle frequent interruptions, adapt to changes in workload, and work schedule. Ability to set priorities, make effective decisions, and respond quickly to patients' needs. Ability to pay attention to details, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. * Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills required (ie. Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.). Completion of orientation/training as required.
