Position Summary This application is for SPRING 2025 hiring only.

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL, formerly known as CAPS) is looking to hire new tutors to support Math and Science classes in our drop-in center. CTL's mission is to make learning more accessible for everyone on UNM's campus by providing services that meet the needs of all Lobos. We are a peer-centered learning center, which means that as a tutor you'll be supporting your fellow Lobos while also having the opportunity to focus on your own content mastery and tutoring skills. Each semester, CTL tutors will gain accreditation through the nationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association.

We are looking for students who have done well in their classes, and are excited about helping out their peers. Prior experience with tutoring is appreciated, but not required. Applicants will be asked to indicated which subject areas they are applying to be tutors for. Potential tutors should have received a B+ or higher in the classes that they are applying to tutor. However, we do hire tutors who achieved lower grades in some classes and demonstrated growth across higher level courses. We most commonly support Math, Physics, Statistics, Chemistry and Biology classes.

Workstudy is not a requirement to work for CTL. While both online and in-person work is available, new tutors are expected to do some work in person on the third floor of Zimmerman library.

Chemistry

Chemistry tutors most commonly help with General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. In order to tutor Chemistry we expect that you've taken at least Organic Chemistry I and its prerequisite courses. (Chem 1215, Chem 1225 and Chem 301) Biology

If you took courses prior to the change in the major you are also eligible to tutor Biology. Math: We expect perspective math tutors to have at least taken Calculus 2 (Math 1522). Expertise in higher level math courses, or plans to enroll in these higher level courses, is preferred, but not required. Being comfortable with pre-calculus and algebra is also important for potential math tutors.
