Summary
This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Controller, and will be a key member of the Chief Accounting Officer team, driving excellence in financial reporting and technical accounting on a global basis. The Director - Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting supports the activities of the Corporate Accounting, Worldwide Segment Accounting, Settlement Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Finance and Internal Audit teams. The Director - Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting is responsible for the following:
All external financial reporting, including SEC reports; Accounting for and administration of share-based compensation programs; Accounting research and consultation; Establishing and maintaining accounting policies for the global organization; Driving the implementation of new accounting standards for the worldwide organization, including appropriate education and training; and Supporting the global accounting and finance organizations to ensure compliance and application of accounting policies on a global basis.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
Lead the preparation of SEC reports, including registration statements, Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Proxy Statement and supporting documentation. Lead the preparation of notes to financial statements, MD&A and other disclosures in SEC reports. Ensure compliance with XBRL requirements and other reporting initiatives. Coordinate with Finance and Investor Relations on the preparation of quarterly earnings release schedules and review of investor relations materials. Lead the preparation of monthly and quarterly consolidated financial reports, including: balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, statement of other comprehensive income and equity statement. Manage the accounting for equity transactions, share-based compensation and earnings per share. Lead the preparation and evaluation of financial statement analytics; lead quarterly balance sheet and cash flow statement review meetings. Lead quarterly accounting and finance meetings with internal organization and external auditors. Coordinate periodic meetings with Treasury to monitor activity related to debt, equity and related activities to align and obtain information relevant for accounting and disclosure. Coordinate periodic meetings with the Tax Department to monitor income tax related matters to align and obtain information relevant for accounting and disclosure. Preparation of schedules and other supporting documentation for internal and external auditors. Oversee the completion of required reporting to governmental entities. Manage financial reporting staff. Establish goals, measure and direct performance, establish effective succession plan and cross-training programs. Manage relationship(s) with external financial reporting consultants, including Workiva (electronic filing and XBRL), Intelligize (SEC compliance and research), and Deloitte (Accounting Research and Financial Statement Disclosure Checklist Tools). Provide research support in connection with SEC filings, including research of rulemaking and peer company analysis relevant to reports on Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and registration statements. Assist in responding to SEC comment letters, FASB requests for comment and other standard-setting authorities as necessary. Assist the SVP in preparing information for Audit Committee and Disclosure Committee meetings.
Technical Accounting
Monitor and assess domestic and international emerging accounting and reporting standards. This will entail monitoring the activities of the SEC, the FASB, the AICPA and the IASB. Research accounting literature and conduct technical analysis. Analysis may include complex areas including debt, derivatives, stock compensation, revenue and lease accounting, income taxes, consolidation, equity method investments, joint ventures and business combinations and divestitures. Work with global accounting and finance teams to properly document unusual, nonroutine or significant transactions, such as acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, complex customer transactions, changes in business practices, etc., and the proposed accounting treatment supported by authoritative literature. Assist with Company projects related to debt refinancing, segment reporting, reporting unit identification and goodwill and other asset group impairments. Ensure senior management has reliable, proactive information regarding accounting for proposed transactions and external reporting requirements. Assist in discussions with the audit team regarding questions and providing appropriate responses, based on researched accounting literature and conduct technical analysis. Assist with establishing and updating accounting policies for the Company's worldwide organization for consistency in application and uniformity of design and effect. Participate as an active member in the review of monthly and quarterly financial information to assist in identifying emerging areas, areas lacking adequate internal accounting policies and consistency with internal policies and the Company's interpretation and application of US GAAP and overall consistency. Participate in local industry groups (Fintech, Payment groups, Technology Association etc.) to share knowledge on technical accounting matters. Evaluate and help implement new accounting standards and PCAOB, FASB, SEC, AICPA and industry guidance for all segments of the Company. Assist with periodic training and SEC/FASB updates to both accounting and nonaccounting personnel (e.g., sales, legal, etc.). Assist in research as needed for changes in PCAOB and SOX guidance to support the global organization maintain effective internal control over financial reporting.
Qualifications
CPA Finance or Accounting Bachelor's degree; Master of Accounting preferred Minimum 7 years experience Big 4 experience required Extensive knowledge of SEC regulations and GAAP Experience preparing/reviewing external financial statements in accordance with GAAP, IFRS and SEC regulations, including SEC forms 10-Q and 10-K Experience working with external auditors, internal and external legal counsel and others to complete complex financial reports for distribution to the SEC, banking partners, investors, domestic and foreign regulatory entities and others Experience with internal control over financial reporting in a public company environment, including financial and system control activities Experience with global organizations Acquisition accounting experience Ability to research complex accounting literature and conduct technical analysis Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to draft comprehensive technical accounting memos Confident and positive executive presence and interpersonal skills Good organizational skills, ability to multi-task Strong analytical and technical accounting skill Fully proficient in MS Office suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint Experience with cloud-based systems such as Workiva financial reporting, Oracle and/or Fidelity is a plus Must be proactive, detailed and results oriented Ability to work effectively across many internal functional groups Self-motivated; Able to work both independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests Excellent planning skills; Ability to effectively manage priorities for self and others to meet business requirements and deadlines in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
