The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients undergoing pain management procedures and treatments. This role involves close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive and effective pain relief for patients. Work is performed in an outpatient clinic setting with exposure to patients in varying degrees of pain and distress. Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
- Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, including medical history review, pain evaluation, and vital signs monitoring.
- Document patient information accurately in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Monitor patients' response to interventions and report significant changes or complications to the medical team.
- Prepare and assist in performing interventional pain management procedures, such as nerve blocks, epidural injections, spinal cord stimulators, and other minimally invasive treatments.
- Set up and maintain sterile field during procedures.
- Provide procedural sedation under the supervision of the physician or nurse anesthetist, as required.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Provide post-procedure care, including monitoring vital signs, assessing for complications, and providing appropriate interventions.
- Educate patients about post-procedure care, including medication instructions, activity restrictions, and follow-up appointments.
- Document any adverse reactions, complications, or issues during the recovery phase and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Administer prescribed medications, including analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and others, following the appropriate protocols.
- Monitor for side effects, adverse reactions, and interactions.
- Work closely with physicians, other healthcare providers, and other clinical staff to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Assist in the coordination of patient care and follow-up procedures, ensure post procedure contacts are made according to protocols and address any future patient needs or referrals.
- Ensure accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of patient care, interventions, and outcomes in the EMR system.
- Adhere to all clinic policies, procedures, and regulatory standards to maintain a safe, compliant, and patient-centered care environment.
- Act as a patient advocate, providing emotional support and guidance throughout the pain management process.
- Address patient concerns and help them navigate the complexities of their treatment plan.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment.
- Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and hold them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
- Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
Development & Patient Education
- Educate patients on pain management techniques, including medication usage, non-pharmacological therapies (e.g., physical therapy, acupuncture), lifestyle adjustments, and other pain therapy services options.
- Educate patients on safe medication usage, potential side effects, and the importance of adherence to the prescribed regimen.
- Provide emotional support to patients dealing with chronic pain and explain long-term management strategies.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of new nursing staff or medical assistants, patient care techs.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay up-to-date with advancements in pain management and nursing practices.
- Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient's and their families' age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension by utilizing a holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria).
- Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
- Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

Prefer one (1) year of hospital clinical experience or demonstrated clinical efficiency. |

Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in [type in State]. Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire. CORE Certification within six (6) months from date of hire. Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. |
